The Walkerston Shopping Centre in Mackay’s western corridor has been listed for sale by Indigenous Business Australia (IBA).

Located at 8 Creek Street, the single-level retail property features a gross lettable area of 3266sqm on a 10,980sqm site with 157 on-grade parking spaces.

The centre is anchored by a Woolworths supermarket occupying 2673sqm, operating under a lease agreement running through 2031.

The fully leased property also includes five specialty tenants, such as a Cellarbrations bottle shop, Walkerston Country Meats, a local library branch, and food outlets.

This is only the second time the property has been offered to the market since it was built in 2007. IBA has held the asset since 2017.

The sales campaign is being handled jointly by representatives from Knight Frank and CBRE.

Knight Frank agent Jessica Coleman indicated that the property is expected to draw interest from private investors focusing on regional commercial assets, while CBRE agent Joe Tynan pointed to ongoing residential expansion in the surrounding area as a factor supporting long-term performance.

“Walkerston Shopping Centre occupies a strategic position on the Peak Downs Highway, the key transport corridor linking Mackay with the Bowen Basin mining region,” said Coleman.

“This asset offers a rare opportunity to acquire a dominant neighbourhood retail asset underpinned by strong tenancy fundamentals and population growth,” she added.

“We continue to see strong buyer demand for convenience-based retail assets anchored by major national tenants, particularly in regional locations supported by population growth and strong economic drivers,” said Hayden Ryan at Knight Frank.

The expressions of interest campaign is scheduled to close on November 19.
