Cas Lane, a new indoor dining and entertainment precinct, has taken over the former Quarter space as a key part of a $100 million redevelopment of the Northern Territory’s largest shopping centre, Casuarina Square.

The redevelopment of Casuarina Square, which Sentinel Property Group acquired from GPT Group for $418 million in 2022, also includes expanded undercover parking, an upgraded Woolworths mall, the NT’s first Woolworths direct-to-boot service, a new service station under a long-term lease to Silo, and a new passenger drop-off zone at Cas Lane.

The redevelopment is set to be completed with builder Sunbuild, architect Andy Ong from Hames Sharley and engineers ADG & HK Solutions.

“Casuarina Square has deserved a dining and entertainment precinct like Cas Lane since the centre opened in 1973,” said Sentinel CEO Warren Ebert. With Ebert, the investment represents “a strong vote of confidence” in Darwin and the NT’s future.

“We are delighted to have delivered the new Cas Lane precinct, which has already attracted some outstanding national businesses including family entertainment centre Iplay, World Gym, eateries Kickin’ Inn and Grill’d, and fro-yo sensation Yo-Chi, which has already enjoyed record-breaking patronage.”

He added that visitors make at least four trips to Casuarina Square each month, and the redevelopment builds on Sentinel’s previous efforts to make the shopping centre a more comfortable and safer destination.

“Since the CLP government under Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro came to power two years ago with a pledge to crack down on crime in the NT, particularly youth crime, there has been a marked reduction in this sort of activity at Casuarina Square.”

Located in Darwin’s northern suburbs, Casuarina Square attracts shoppers from across Greater Darwin and beyond. The centre has a gross lettable area of 55,000sqm, more than 180 specialty stores and 2453 car parking spaces. Major retailers include Kmart, Big W, JB Hi-Fi, Coles, Woolworths, BCC Cinemas and Mecca.
