Residents in Gladstone, Queensland, are soon to be able to shop at a home-focused retail precinct following a more than $100 million development on the site of the former Gladstone Golf Club.

Developers Tipalea Partners are working on the 25,000sqm site in response to growing demand in the region.

Tipalea says that leasing discussions are underway with a mix of national and local brands across furniture, electronics, outdoor sports, bedding and homeware.

The centre is expected to create around 1200 jobs during construction, with a further 400 jobs coming after its opening.

“We will soon be asking the community to name the centre, choose the logo and tell us what they want to see in their centre, as well as having a number of in-person community Q&A sessions,” said Scott Spanton, CEO of Tipalea Partners.

Yaralla Sports Club – the owner of the development – is planning to relocate Gladstone Golf Club to a larger championship golf course at Byellee Waters.

“Our new, larger home will allow us to create a championship golf course supported by accommodation, hospitality and community facilities,” Yaralla Sports Club CEO Will Schroeder said.

“We’re also delighted that our current site will have a new future as a big box retail centre, ensuring the land continues to serve the Gladstone community for many years to come.”

The new 18-hole championship golf course at Byellee Waters is planned to include a clubhouse, community and event facilities, an RV park, a four-star resort, practice greens and mini golf, all set amongst the site’s natural wetlands. Works are expected to begin in early 2027.
