Brisbane’s iconic Riverwalk has reopened following a $42 million transformation, offering a bigger and safer waterfront space for locals.

The new Riverwalk section is at least six metres wide, creating a safer, more comfortable space for walkers, runners and cyclists to move along the river’s edge – one of Brisbane’s busiest active transport corridors.

The infrastructure replaces the previously narrow and constrained path with a generous riverside promenade and feature artwork.

The project was delivered on time through Dexus and Brisbane City Council’s landmark Waterfront Brisbane partnership.

“Today’s unveiling of the new Waterfront Brisbane riverwalk is transforming a former bottleneck into a place people actually want to spend time, with more to see and do along the Brisbane River,” said Brisbane City Council Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinne.

“The Brisbane River is one of our greatest assets and I’m really proud to see it being transformed in a way that will make our city even better to live in,” he added.

Dexus CEO Ross Du Vernet said the investment in community infrastructure was central to the company’s vision for Waterfront Brisbane as a premium business and leisure destination.

Dexus’s project director for Waterfront Brisbane, Matthew Beasley, added the Riverwalk would provide an active transport link to green space and riverfront dining, enhancing Brisbane’s vibrant riverside lifestyle while delivering long-term benefits to the city.

Waterfront Brisbane will soon transform, with the first of two office towers and a new retail precinct – featuring new restaurants, bars and community open space – taking shape.

Construction of the first tower is set to accelerate in the coming months and remains on track for completion in late 2028.
