Western Australia’s Floreat Forum shopping centre celebrated its 60th anniversary last Saturday, with a free community event, drawing hundreds of locals.

The centre opened in 1965 as the state’s first suburban shopping centre, providing a rapidly growing community with grocery, fashion, and dining services, eliminating the need for locals to travel into the Perth CBD.

“For six decades, Floreat Forum has been more than just a place to shop – it has been a community gathering place, complete with memorable features including the tank, the fountain and the big top,” said Shane McLean, Floreat Forum centre manager.

“Our 60th anniversary gave us the chance to celebrate those shared memories while looking ahead to many more years of connection and community.”

The centre was originally developed by the Hammerson Group, now JLL, and managed by Jones Lang Wootton.

Initially housing 40 stores, the centre is now home to more than 70 retailers, with three of the original tenants still in business.

The 60th anniversary celebration featured roving performers, hands-on crafts, and a display of historic photographs and press cuttings, offering a look at the centre’s evolution over the years.
