Soul Hub in Newcastle has been presented $5,000 from the Shopping Centre Council of Australia (SCCA) to assist the organisation in helping the most vulnerable in the Newcastle community. Beyond serving meals, Soul Hub aims to cater to the whole person.

Soul Hub was nominated by the team at Marketown, owned by Region Group and managed by Knight Frank, who recently won the Community (small) category at the SCCA’s 2024 Marketing Awards for their ‘Little hands Wise Hearts. An Intergenerational Journey” campaign.

Soul Hub, was the vision of Life Church and was formally established in 2003 as Soul Cafe. The vision was to build a charity dedicated to helping the most vulnerable in our community. As well as serving up meals, they wanted to go beyond this to cater to the whole person.

Kirby Rogers, Business and Operations Manager at SCCA said: “Shopping centres play an important role across the country, and the SCCA proudly highlights campaigns and programs which have such strong positive connections within communities as part of our Annual Marketing Awards.

“Through these awards, the SCCA provides four $5,000 grants each year to winners in our community categories. We are pleased to present $5,000 to Soul Hub, selected by Marketown, so they can continue to support the Newcastle community.”

“We are incredibly proud being the first shopping centre in the Newcastle and Hunter Region to win this award for Community (small) category at the SCCA’s 2024 Marketing awards,” said Marketing Manager Penny Price.

“We have nominated Soul Hub as the recipient of this money to continue their essential work they do for the homeless and vulnerable in Newcastle. It’s very humbling to receive this award for our Marketown Intergenerational program that is mutually beneficial to the minds and hearts of both generations.”

Erica Rees, Chief Operating Officer at Region Group said: “We recognise that sustainability goes beyond environmental concerns. As a Group, we are deeply committed to social responsibility and the wellbeing of our employees, tenants, customers, and the local communities in which we operate. Our centres play a vital role in the economic prosperity of these communities, and we understand the importance of giving back through meaningful partnerships, volunteering, and local initiatives.

“It’s especially rewarding to see this commitment brought to life through our property partners at Knight Frank — particularly Penny Price, Marketing Manager at Marketown. The success and recognition of the Marketown Intergenerational Program within our industry is a testament to that effort. Even more inspiring is seeing this recognition extend to support the incredible work of Soul Hub.
