Tauranga Crossing shopping centre will unveil the next phase of its development later this year, anchored by the grand opening of a new two-level flagship Farmers store. The new store opening represents a significant milestone in the centre’s growth strategy, reinforcing its position as a major shopping destination within one of New Zealand’s fastest-growing regions.
Spanning 6,500m2 across two levels, the new flagship Farmers store will deliver Farmers’ full brand experience for the first time at Tauranga Crossing, including fashion, beauty, homewares, and furniture.
Andrew Campbell, acting CEO of Tauranga Crossing says, “The opening of Farmers new store reflects a significant step in Tauranga Crossing’s growth journey, as it continues to develop alongside the region’s rapid population and infrastructure growth.”
Farmers CEO, Stuart Duncan, says the move into a larger format store is a strategic decision aligned with both brands’ growth ambitions.
“Moving to a cornerstone position at the intersection of SH29, SH36, and Takatimu Drive makes strong strategic sense for Farmers. With continued development in the area and a rapidly growing customer base, we’re proud to play a role in the centre’s evolution and future,” he said.

A unique feature of the Farmers expansion is the cladding of solar panels, which aligns with the centre’s broader sustainability objectives. Tauranga Crossing’s design incorporates timber features as a nod to Tauriko’s timber milling history, while the introduction of natural light throughout the mall and western facade helps connect the space with its natural surroundings – a reflection of the region’s outdoor lifestyle aspirations. The decision to clad the Farmers expansion with solar panels is an extension of this design-led approach, enabling the building to harvest energy during the hottest parts of the day, when the centre’s energy demand is at its peak.
Positioned for growth in New Zealand’s golden triangle
Tauranga Crossing sits at the centre of a region undergoing significant change. Enabling works are already underway to support the development of a further 4,000 new homes in Tauriko West, alongside major infrastructure upgrades including the signalisation of the Cambridge Road intersection on SH29, the Takitimu North Link, and continued expansion of the Tauriko Business Estate.
One key area of change is Taurikura Drive, where Tauranga Crossing is working in partnership with Tauranga City Council and other stakeholders to deliver significant modifications. These include the introduction of dedicated bus lanes and new facilities that will enhance connectivity between Tauriko West and the wider city.

This western corridor is projected to absorb a large share of Tauranga’s population growth over the next 10 to 20 years. As the region grows, Tauranga Crossing is committed to growing with it – adapting and developing to meet the needs of new communities. Located within New Zealand’s Golden Triangle, the high-growth corridor connecting Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga, the centre already sees more than 37,000 vehicles passing its doorstep each day.
“We are still on a growth journey, evolving alongside our community. The opening of Farmers represents a significant step in that ongoing transformation but the centre is only early into its development cycle and there’s a lot more to come,” says Campbell.
