Port Adelaide Plaza has further cemented its position as a leading retail destination in Adelaide’s west with the official opening of a brand-new 5,000m2 Woolworths supermarket on Wednesday 23 July 2025. The store expands the centre’s everyday essentials offering and marks a key milestone in the evolution of the precinct.
The new full-line Woolworths features a streamlined layout designed for convenience, offering an extensive selection of fresh produce, 100% Australian meat, fresh local seafood, and a full in-store bakery. The store is also equipped with six dedicated Direct-to-Boot bays to meet growing demand for online shopping convenience.
Precision Group Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Shaun Bonett said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Woolworths Group’s continued investment at Port Adelaide Plaza and its ongoing partnership with Precision Group. The opening of Woolworths marks a significant milestone for the Port Adelaide community, bringing enhanced convenience and access to quality food and everyday essentials for local residents and the surrounding suburbs from one of Australia’s most trusted brands.”
Designed with sustainability in mind, the Woolworths store incorporates more than 800 solar panels, refrigeration systems to reduce environmental impact, and trolleys made from recycled materials.
The new addition supports Port Adelaide Plaza’s broader strategy to deliver modern, sustainable, and accessible retail experiences in one of Adelaide’s fastest-growing trade areas.
The Woolworths opening builds on the momentum of Big W’s successful launch in November 2024 and joins an impressive line-up of national and local retailers at the centre, including ALDI, Liquorland, The Reject Shop and more than 70 specialty stores. The iconic South Australian fresh food retailer Tony & Mark’s is also set to open mid-August, further enriching the fresh food and lifestyle offering.
“Big W’s success at Port Adelaide Plaza has demonstrated the growing demand for accessible, everyday lifestyle retail. By bringing together the strengths of Big W and Woolworths, alongside more than 70 specialty stores and services, we’re poised to deliver an even richer and more convenient shopping experience for the community”, said Bonett.”
Port Adelaide Plaza serves a primary trade area of over 132,000 residents, with the population expected to grow by 10.2% over the next decade. This forecast is underpinned by increasing demand for medium and high-density residential developments in and around the Port Precinct.
