Western Australian property group Hawaiian has launched the Newpark Community Corner, introducing a 760sqm public recreation precinct to Girrawheen’s residential area.

Located at Hawaiian’s Newpark shopping centre, the site offers a public basketball court and firewise garden designed to introduce bushfire safety and preparedness concepts to families.

The space was developed in collaboration with the City of Wanneroo, environmental consultancy The Forever Project, and bushfire education initiative Firewise, following local community consultation.

The development forms part of Hawaiian’s broader revitalisation strategy for the Girrawheen centre, which was acquired in 2017.

Subsequent upgrades completed since 2023 include an alfresco dining area, interior refurbishments, and the addition of anchor tenants including WA’s first Supa Valu, alongside Revo Fitness and Chemist Warehouse.

Hawaiian CEO Beau Waters said that the precinct is designed to expand the centre’s footprint beyond traditional retail operations by providing accessible public space for residents.

“We see the role of a neighbourhood centre as being about much more than retail. It can be a place where people feel connected to their local area and where there are opportunities to spend time together,” he added.
