Sydney Metro has appointed Lendlease, Mirvac and Coombes Property Group as development and delivery partners for its Hunter Street metro precinct.

The project is designed to deliver a landmark metro station and two over-station developments that integrate offices and retail in the commercial heart of Sydney’s CBD.

As part of the partnership, Lendlease will deliver the new Hunter Street Station, which will become a central nexus of the Metro West network, connecting Barangaroo, Wynyard, Hunter Street and Martin Place.

The station is expected to serve more than 15,000 people every hour in the morning peak and up to 30,000 by 2061.

The precinct will also feature two commercial towers above the station entrances – one to the west delivered by Lendlease and the other to the east developed by Mirvac and Coombes Property Group. Each tower will feature retail and hospitality offerings, alongside public spaces and laneways, to create a destination for work, culture, and connection.

The 52-storey west tower, located on the corner of George and Hunter Streets, is anticipated to provide 58,000sqm of leasable commercial area and 1000sqm of retail space.

The 58-storey east tower, on O’Connell and Hunter Streets, will offer 70,00sqm of office space with flexible floorplates.

Construction of the station’s main works is expected to start late this year, and the opening is scheduled for 2032, in line with the opening of Metro West services. The towers will be completed following the station opening.

Lendlease brings extensive experience in delivering integrated station developments, including Metro Martin Place and Victoria Cross.

“We’re looking forward to working with Sydney Metro to deliver a seamlessly connected destination that integrates workplaces, retail and public spaces, creating long-term economic and social value for Sydney,” said Tom Mackellar, Lendlease’s CEO Development.
