Region Group has announced revised plans for the proposed refresh and expansion of Greenbank neighbourhood shopping centre in Queensland, which it said was a result of subsequent market changes.

The plans include an amendment to the pre-approved Development Application (DA). The centre will be anchored by a new discount department store, a range of additional specialty retailers, and expanded food and beverage offerings.

The group said the centre will be a “true town centre”, designed to become the focal point of community life in Greenbank.

“Our previous engagements with the local community revealed overwhelming support for the redevelopment, reaffirming our vision for the centre; however, while community feedback was positive, we felt the timing wasn’t right to progress immediately, given shifting market conditions,” said Wayne Moodie, Region Group’s GM of major tenant partnerships and projects.

“This delay has given us the opportunity to deliver an even better precinct for the community – allowing us to refine the plans further to ensure the design, tenant mix, and community amenities are best-in-class for locals, including integrated customer service elements with direct-to-boot and parcel pickup services.”

Greenbank is set to experience a population boom over the next 10 years, and by 2041, the area is expected to reach 74,000 in the core local catchment.

According to Moodie, the expansion of the centre is perfectly timed to meet the needs of the fast-growing community.

“The new plan still embodies the key tenets of the previous design, and consideration is being given to the future stages of planning, and how they will be incorporated into the larger master plan,” he added.

Region Group will prepare for construction – starting with the existing centre revamp – in early 2027.
