JD Sports will headline 11 recent and upcoming retailer openings, expansions and relocations at Sunshine Plaza ahead of Christmas.

Spanning 636sqm at Centre Court, JD Sports’ new store marks the retailer’s first Sunshine Coast location, 13th in Queensland and 80th nationally. In addition, the arrival will enhance Sunshine Plaza’s footwear, activewear and youth-fashion offerings as another global brand in its growing retail lineup, while reflecting a broader period of retail activity at the centre.

Sunshine Plaza’s centre manager, Brian Turner, said the opening was a significant milestone for the centre as it continued to attract major retailers to the Sunshine Coast retail landscape.

“JD Sports is a highly anticipated addition to Sunshine Plaza and a major new name for the Sunshine Coast retail market,” he said. “We’re excited to be giving local customers access to another sought-after international retailer closer to home, while strengthening our existing fashion and activewear mix.”

JD Sports Apac GM of marketing, Michael Weatherson, said the Sunshine Coast launch would allow local consumers to further immerse in the world of JD.

“The Sunshine Coast is an important and growing market, and Sunshine Plaza’s scale, location and strong mix of leading brands made it a natural choice for our next store.”

The arrival follows the recent openings and expansions of Ariat and Zeus Street Greek. Six more retailers are set to open between August and October, including Sabo, Oroton, Afends, Frankly My Dear, Mask & Co and The Mobile Phone Company. Established retailers are also expanding their footprints, with Lululemon recently moving into a larger store and Cotton On set to follow.

This combination demonstrates continued confidence in Sunshine Plaza and the region’s growing customer base, according to Turner. “The pipeline includes a strong combination of international and Australian brands across fashion, activewear, dining, beauty and services”.

“With several retailers already trading and more preparing to open, customers will continue to see Sunshine Plaza’s lifestyle retail offering evolve during the important lead-up to summer and the festive season.”
